NEA: Website

10/04/18 L/O: TO PRODUCE A CONCISE AND WELL STRUCTURED STATEMENT OUTLINING OUT CHOSEN BRIEF.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

I intend to use elements of Industry, Language, Audience and Representation to meet the requirements of my chosen brief of a fashion magazine aimed at females ages 16-25, in the class AB demographic, by finding out what my audience would like to see, I will do this by creating a questionnaire in which I ask people of the required age a series of questions relating to my magazine, from questions such as how much they would pay for a magazine to what colours they would prefer to see. This will help me when creating my magazine as I will have more of an idea as to what my target audience would like to read etc. I am going to take into consideration the audiences interests when creating cover lines of possible articles. The masthead will be chosen by the audience as it is them who will have to read it and I want it to be as popular as possible so I wouldn’t want to pick a masthead style no one will like. I will also research the style of fashion magazines so I have more of an idea as to the general style of fashion magazines. I will call my magazine ALINE because that relates to fashion and my magazine is a fashion magazine so I want people to make that correlation when they hear the magazine is called ALINE.

I intend to use elements of Industry, Language, Audience and Representation to meet the requirements of my chosen brief of a fashion website by making my website so the target audience will like it and also find it easy to read and understand since they won’t want to look at my fashion website if it’s too complex. I am going to take into consideration the audiences interests when creating cover lines of possible articles. I will also use my questionnaire I done in relation to my website so I know what the target audience wants to see. I will also research what is included on fashion websites so I have more of an idea on what other website readers want to see and therefore fit in to the fashion genre. In my colour pallet for my website I want to aim to use quite feminine colours such as pinks and purples.

I intend to link my media products to demonstrate my knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of my media production by looking at fashion magazine websites and how they link together and then linking my website with my print work by using the same colours and photos from the same photoshoot that are used on my covers or contents pages so there is a clear correlation between the two. There will be a consistency in the masthead font and house style between my magazine and website.

17/04/18 L/O: TO RESEARCH SIMILAR PRODUCTS AND COMPANIES.

Who are Bauer?

The business became part of the Bauer Media Group, Europe’s largest privately-owned media group, in 2008.

What UK magazines do they publish (fashion and others)?

In the UK they reached over 25 million consumers. Their portfolio includes heat, Grazia, Take a Break, Bella, Tv choice, modern classics and many more.

They are Britain’s biggest magazine publisher.

What are their values and ideology?

They say their biggest value is “Our aim is to connect audiences with excellent content through our broad multi-touchpoint brand platforms. Wherever, whenever and however they want”

They say they want their content to be:

 Informing and entertaining
• Fresh and surprising
• Relentlessly relevant to the communities we inspire and connect with
• Standing out from the competition & consistently better.

They say they want to work with people who are passionate about:

• The product
• Their team
• Working hard
• Beating the competition

They don't have a fashion magazine aimed at the age range 16-25 yet. The only fashion magazine they have is Grazia magazine which is aimed at 25-45 year olds that are of the same class. So when the 16-25 year olds grow up they can move onto the Grazia magazine.

80% female
20% male

They are experiencers who are young, enthusiastic and impulsive. Variety, excitement and risk is what motivates the consumers. There main purchases are fashion merchandise, entertainment and socialising.

24/04/18 L/O: TO ANALYSE SIMILAR PRODUCTS.

08/05/18 L/O: TO PLAN EFFECTIVE AND CREATIVE CONTENT FOR A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE.

1.
3 alternative titles for a new fashion magazine relating to your sub-genre and include notes on possible design styles for the masthead:
2.
Overview of my magazine:
The values my magazine will stand for are being unique and standing out but since the masthead 'A-LINE' suggest it could be in line and straight forward since an a-line skirt or dress is a skirt that goes straight down whilst going out slightly which may represent that we only slightly divert from the normal standard of fashion but in reality we are doing the opposite of the masthead. I will represent this by having fashion photography photos that represent my magazines values and the articles will appeal to everyone since they will not be too controversial. The content it will include are fashion photos, articles, adverts for popular clothing brands.

3.
4 possible main images ideas:

  • A photo shoot in the studio with coloured lighting on a portrait of someones face so its mainly focusing on the make up aspect of fashion.
  • An upper half of the body photo shoot in the studio with a bright coloured background so it stands out whilst the model has bright coloured clothes on and a bold makeup look.
  • A photo shoot outside in the nature and they are lying on the grass with flowers around them whist wearing a floral dress.
  • A photo shoot against a brick wall because it makes a nice background, with basic coloured clothes on.

4.10 article subjects which could be included as cover lines:

  • Current fashion trends.
  • Celebrity gossip.
  • popular makeup brands
  • healthy eating
  • newest technology
  • current political events

5.
Two mock ups of the covers:

6.
Two possible layout sketches for my contents page:

  • Same as 8?

7.
Possible section headings for my contents page:

  • FASHION
  • MAKEUP
  • LIFESTYLE
  • CULTURE
  • JEWELLERY

8.
2 possible ideas for contents pages: (just a basic outline)

UNFINSHED
9.
Possible layout sketch for my website homepage:

10.
Possible photo shoot ideas for website images:

  • Similar to my cover photos since I want them to link together.

22/5/18 L/O: TO PLAN MY PHOTOSHOOTS.

My cover shoots:

  • For one of my cover shoots I will do a location shoot outside in front of a brick wall, as shown below. I will use natural day light in the photos so I will have to make sure I do it on a day when the weather is nice but it isn't too sunny because else it will glare on the camera or over expose their face or they will be squinting because the sun will be in their eyes.
  • For my other cover shoot I will do a shoot in the photography studio with the yellowish background.

06/09/18 L/O TO REVIEW AND REFLECT ON WORK COMPLETED AND PLAN FINAL TASKS.

Comments

  1. Some good planning & research.

    RESEARCH:
    Bauer!! Check spelling
    TA Profile - include psychographics.
Analysis of similar products - embed Thinglink

    PLANNING:
    Like the mock ups.
Values - need refining. You do NOT want to be 'basic and not unique'
    Contents pages look very basic.
Be more creative when planning shoots - think about the clothes in more detail too - add images

  2. FIRST DRAFT FEEDBACK:
Why is the yellow article on Travel page?
Feature section font sizes need to match
You're missing a lot of text - all those blank spaces need filling!
Try not to use any more images of the twins - you need to show a variety of models
    Check SPAG

  3. SoI: this is far too vague. You need to talk about the codes and conventions you will follow and how you want your models/brand represented etc. It also isn't finished!
